Why Vectorize an AI Image?

Photorealistic AI images contain thousands of shades. Open Options and lower Colors to 8, 16 or 32, or choose "Flat illustration" under Artwork, to merge them into fewer, larger shapes.
Do I need to upscale the AI image first?
