Photo to Vector Art

Poster-Style Vectors From Your Photos

A photo has millions of subtly different pixels. A vector cannot copy every one of them, so instead the picture is turned into a set of flat color layers, like a screen print or a pop-art poster.

The Photographic artwork setting keeps many color layers, so faces, fur and skies stay recognizable. Fewer colors give a bolder, more graphic look; more colors keep more of the original detail.

Because the result is a real vector, you can print it at poster size, recolor individual layers, or use it as the starting point for an illustration in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma.

Tips

Tips for the Best Photo to Vector Art Results

Choose a clear subject

Photos with one subject, good light and a simple background give the strongest vector art.

Play with the color count

Set Colors to 8 or 16 for a bold pop-art look, or 64 to 128 for a more detailed, painterly result.

Use multi-pass for tricky photos

Turn on multi-pass in Options: it tries several settings and keeps the result closest to your photo.

3 simple steps

How to Convert Photo to Vector Art

Convert portraits, pets, cars and landscapes into bold, poster-style SVG illustrations made of layered flat colors, perfect for prints, posters, merch and stylized artwork..

  1. Step 1

Pick a photo with a clear subject

Portraits, pets and simple scenes with good contrast work best. Busy backgrounds and dim, grainy photos give a busier result.

  2. Step 2

    It becomes flat-color art

The photo is turned into layers of flat color shapes, like a screen-printed poster. It is a stylized illustration, not a photo-perfect copy.

  3. Step 3

    Choose the style and download

Fewer Colors gives a bolder, graphic look; more Colors keeps more shading. Try Multi-pass for difficult photos, then download the SVG.

FAQ

Photo to Vector Art: Questions and Answers

Will the vector look exactly like my photo?

No. A photo becomes a stylized, poster-like vector made of flat color layers, not an exact copy. For an exact copy at full detail, keep the original photo.

Why is my photo SVG file so large?

Photos produce many shapes. Lower Colors to 16 or 32, or set Detail to "Low" or "Medium" in Options, for a smaller, simpler file.

Can I turn a photo into a single-color stencil?

Yes. Choose "Silhouette (2 colours)" under Artwork for a black-and-white stencil you can cut, paint or engrave.
