JPG is the most common image format on the web, but it is lossy: every save adds small blocks and color noise around edges. On a logo or a graphic you see it as a dirty halo around letters and shapes.
When you convert a JPG to SVG here, similar colors are merged in a color space that matches how the eye sees them. The compression noise folds into the surrounding color, and what is left is a clean set of flat shapes with smooth edges.
The output is a true vector file. It scales from a business card to a billboard, and you can recolor or edit it in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or CorelDRAW.
JPG files cannot be transparent, so a JPG logo usually sits on a white box. Set Background to "Remove" and the SVG comes out with no background at all.

If small specks remain, open Options and set Colors to 8 or 16. Noise disappears into the nearest flat color.
Set Background to "Remove" to get a transparent SVG from a JPG logo or graphic.

Use the original file if you have it. Every time a JPG is re-saved it loses detail and gains blocky compression noise around edges.
JPEG artifacts — the speckles and color blocks around edges — are merged into the flat colors they belong to, so they do not become hundreds of tiny shapes.
JPGs cannot be transparent, so logos usually sit on white. Set Background to "Remove" for a transparent SVG, then download.
Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format with two file extensions, and both are accepted.
Mostly, yes. Compression noise is merged into the surrounding flat colors during vectorization. Very heavily compressed images may still need a lower color count in Options.
Yes. JPG has no transparency, but setting Background to "Remove" in Options drops a flat background and gives you a transparent SVG.
It will, using the Photographic artwork setting. A photo becomes a stylized, poster-like vector rather than an exact copy.
